About the Role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Advisor to join our Central Rail Systems Alliance (CRSA) team at our Aston depot in Birmingham. As part of the CRSA, Balfour Beatty collaborates with Network Rail, AtkinsRéalis, and TSO to deliver track renewals, crossings, and infrastructure upgrades across key UK rail routes. The alliance uses innovative digital and mechanised solutions to enhance efficiency and create a more reliable railway network.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Advisor, your role will be vital in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our teams and stakeholders. You’ll have the following responsibilities:
- Ensure Compliance: Support projects in meeting legislative requirements and adhering to health and safety standards from the UK Business Management System (BMS) and Network Rail.
- Support Alliance Delivery: Work closely with project teams to ensure health and safety obligations are met, providing technical advice, guidance, and support.
- Promote Learning and Best Practices: Share lessons learned and best practices across Balfour Beatty and Network Rail.
- Performance Reporting: Monitor and report on contract performance, documenting case studies for best practices.
Key Accountabilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Implement the HSWES strategy for the business.
- Review and approve CDM documentation and provide expert health, safety, and wellbeing services.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance safety governance.
- Oversee investigations into incidents, ensuring lessons learned are shared effectively.
- Conduct site audits, inspections, and joint tours to ensure health and safety standards are maintained.
- Deliver inductions, toolbox talks, and other health and safety briefings.
Who We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you should have:
Essential Experience
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IOSH, IEMA) or actively working towards it.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
- Proven experience as an incident investigator.
- Relevant experience in a similar project or business area.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within the rail construction environment.
- A recognised training qualification.
- Additional technical qualifications in relevant areas.
